Profound (formerly known as ePrime: The Evolastin Procedure) is a minimally invasive treatment designed to help people who have sagging skin and loss of volume around the mouth, cheeks, and neck. Profound is a handheld device, operated by a surgeon or surgical-trained nurse and uses eight tiny radiofrequency energy needles, that is placed on the surface of anesthetized skin. Upon activating the device, these eight insulated needles are painlessly injected through the outer skin layer, the epidermis, and into the dermis. It’s followed immediately by the active release of high-intensity heat energy, at a precise temperature of 67 degrees Celsius, and at a predetermined depth, for a duration of 3 to 5 seconds.
This high energy, that’s actually being injected past the outer skin surface and into the dermis, will maximally stimulate the production of collagen and Elastin fibers that provide skin its elasticity or bounce-back activity, the normal characteristic found in young & healthy people. This RF energy also promotes the production of the natural skin moisturizing molecule called Hyaluronic Acid (HA). HA is the reason why healthy skin is described as being more plump and radiant looking.
Recovery time or downtime, where make-up cannot be used, ranges between a couple of days to up to a week, with tissue swelling and spotty bruising lasting a bit longer, but can be easily covered with Colorescience’s wonderful post procedure make-up called Colorescience Color Palette.
Some skin tightening and skin lifting changes are seen immediately, but the visible benefits are ongoing with the skin’s dermal layer rejuvenation typically continuing for 4 to 6 months after a single treatment. Nationwide, the average Profound cost of a typical treatment area, like the mid-face, is $4500, with the range being $3500 to $6500. However, the Profound costs here at Youthful Endeavors are below this national average of $4500.
At Youthful Endeavors, a Profound treatment cost using the 25-degree dermal treatment head on a commonly treated area, the ‘mid-face’, is $3250. The central mid front neck is $2450 to $2800. For the ‘extended’ neck surface area, which includes the mid-frontal area plus the lateral surfaces of the front of the entire neck, the cost range is $3450 to $4600, depending on the actual size of the desired treatment area.
Sometimes a second pass, with the needles traveling at a 75-degree angle for deeper penetration into the subcutaneous layer, is desired to reduce fat deposits. As of summer of 2016, Profound received FDA approval to use their new 75-degree needling treatment heads that reach unwanted fat deposits. For example, fat cells can be evenly reduced with Profound like that found in the central or mid neck, or under the jawline we call jowls, and/or under the chin that’s frequently described as a ‘double chin.’ Our 75-degree subQ treatments range in cost between $1650 to $2850.
Sometimes a person with a very wrinkled and thick skin may want their outer epithelial skin layer also rejuvenated at the same treatment session as their Profound dermal layer treatment for an even more WOW result. This treatment can involve a 2 to 3 pass laser peel on the entire face that has a cost range between $850 to $1350 or on the larger surface area of the neck where the laser peel cost ranges between $1250 to $1675. Also, photo-facials, called Broad Band Light treatments or Intense Pulsed Light treatments, can be part of the treatment regimen to treat age spots, sun spots, redness, spider veins and other skin discolorations and/or diseases.
Most Profound procedures only require a topically-applied numbing cream along with the administration of intra-dermal injection anesthesia with a solution containing Lidocaine, Epinephrine, Bicarb, and Normal Saline, called tumescence. Some patients may desire a more pleasant experience so we can easily add Oral Sedation using Valium/Ativan and an oral narcotic such as Vicodin or Percocet.
We also have the option of Nurse Monitored IV Conscious Sedation for those patients who are having multiple procedures or multiple areas being treated at the same time. IV sedation is commonly used when multiple skin layers are being treated at the same treatment session like when a California Laser-Profound Trio Plus skin rejuvenation procedure is done on the face, face & neck, or the face, neck, & décolletage. This Trio Plus procedure is where the skin’s outer epithelial layer, called the Epidermis, and skin’s supporting second layer, called the Dermis are simultaneously treated during the same treatment session. This is a plus for some people who are looking for best results but only one downtime.
Skin rejuvenation can be done on almost any surface of the body but is most commonly done on the entire face. The next most common areas are around the brows and the eyes, frequently down to the eyelashes with the use of intra-occular eye shields; the next being on the entire front of the neck and even onto the chest-Décolletage. We use various technologies that include the CO2 Laser Peel, the cooler laser called the Erbium Laser Peel, the CO2 Fractional or the Erbium Profractional laser to penetrate into the dermis; it’s especially important safety wise for use around the eyes and on the forehead, and the Profound RF Microneedling on the mid-face and on the entire front of the neck.
These nonsurgical face and neck lifts and skin rejuvenation procedures where we use various laser types and topically-applied RF, which nicely tightens and lifts the skin, have been performed by Dr. Hetz for over ten years. The now less commonly used, and much less effective, Dermal layer stimulation called simple micro-needling, like our MDPen Micro-needling, has been around for five years. However, these game-changing Profound RF Micro-needling procedures, using the standard 25-degree dermal treatment head, have been part of our treatment armamentarium for over 1.5 years, since December 2015 to be exact. We were one of the first ten practices in the USA to be trained and to receive the new 75-degree subcutaneous treatment heads in the summer of 2016. The world’s first two pass and first triple pass Profound RF micro-needling procedure on the forehead for brow lifting, using Dr. Hetz’s created Tumescence-Skin-Lift technique, was performed here in Green Bay in the Fall of 2016.
